Alan. I have a question for you. Ask me a question. Is it racist that I'm eating lasagna while watching this movie? It's not racist. It's just like having a theme night in your house, you know? It's like having a little Cinco de Mayo thing for yourself and having margaritas and shitty tacos. You know what was the lasagna?
Starting point is 00:00:44 Did you make it? Missy did. What did? What did you put in there? A little? Well here you go, a little fake beef? Oh no, right now my nunna somewhere in heaven has her face in her hands. Yeah, luckily it wasn't vegan cheese. Oh no please, that is not real. Don't call it cheese. It's an insulted cheese. You can call it something else. What. What??? a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the you? Oh no, please, that is not real. Don't call it cheese, it's an insulted cheese. You can call it something else, but. I will say that vegetarian beef tech has come a long way. I mean, vegetarian meat is dope, for sure. And the fact that you can now cook a burger and it will bleed even though it's a vegetable.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Is it beet juice? What is bleeding? Yeah, something and then there's like plant hemoglobin in it to give it blood flavor? Yeah, like they're going like out of control. It's like, okay, you guys can stop now. You guys can reel it back a little bit. What if it's just people? That would be horrific. It wouldn't be. Speaking of her horror. Yeah What is the genre of film that we talk about? Horror. Let's talk about a movie. Yeah. What do you want to talk about? I want to talk about Tenabre. Dario Argento's Return to Gialo. Had he left? He had left for a while. What did he do in the interim? He was doing, he did Suspereia in an inferno. Okay. So he was doing his doing his doing his w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w witching th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the th. the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to to. to to to. to. to. to. toeeeeeeeee. to. to. the. the. the. th. th. So he was doing his witch cycle. That's fair. Witch. You know, I made fun of that song in the Susperea episode. I listened to it 400 times last month.
Starting point is 00:02:12 It's really good. It's so good. The music in this movie made by the same people, San's the drummer. I feel like I am growing up on this podcast, like, you're seeing me change my ideas. I feel like I am just beating you down with Dario Argento movies. I have to say, well, we'll get to it. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:02:32 But can we do something first? Sure. Let's open this ball, champagne. Oh, I love it. Did you see the poll I put up on Twitter? I did. Who was saying possibly yes? That's what I want to them the the the poll. Who the poll. Who the poll. Who the poll. Who to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. I, to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. t t t t t t t t together. t t t together. t t t together. t t together, t together. together. th th th th th I want to know. Well, one of them was me because I wanted, as my personal account, because I wanted to see the results and I was logged into my personal account. But also, like, we didn't give him a chance to say no. I mean, I mean, I. It's like a political polling? Do you think the president's doing a great job or a good job?
Starting point is 00:02:57 Well, we're celebrating that? Yeah. Well, we're we're we we're we We so. Well, so we're th. Well, so we're th. Well, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. Yeah. So we're celebrating that. Okay, so you ready? Yes. Well, if I hit your brand new computer. Fine. Oh, wow! I need you to pass me a glass please. Okay. You just stare at me, like, what was I going to do? Technically it's just spark shut up. Technically, it's Proseco.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Cheers. Salud, my friend. And to all of you. Hmm. To all a good night, huh? Yeah. Oh, so she was so sheep. It was on sale.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Normally 1499. Oh, look at that. What's that, 80% off? Well, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th th th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. I. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's............................................................................................................................. that. Yeah. What's that? 80% off? Well, the thing is... Tenebrae. Yeah. Having nothing to do with actual Tenebrae, though. With darkness?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Oh, Tenabre the Crette in the Catholic Church is the Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday. It's Thursday Friday, Friday, Saturday. I thought Tenbrae meant darkness, but I don't know fuck about shit. Yeah. Well, it probably does. Sure. I mean, it's before, well, Holy Thursday. Holy Thursday! Damn. I don't, wait.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I'm going to look up Tenebrae and see what it means. I don't know if it's Holy Thursday is included or Saturday Easter Sunday. Yeah it's not saying anything about meaning darkness I don't know where the fuck I got that from. Oh Latin for darkness that's where I got that okay that'll do it. It must be the time between when Jesus went sleepies before you walk back up. Well technically Jesus went sleepies on like Friday afternoon up. Well, technically Jesus went sleepies on like Friday afternoon. Sure. So Thursday was I guess when he was betrayed anyway. Yeah, yeah. Anyway having nothing to do with any of that.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure. I like that it's on the opening is kind of like a fireplace for your home thing, like one of those Netflix specials you can put on and it just plays like a fireplace. Why is it? The Chialow log? Yeah. Just a black leather glove ripping pages down throwing them into a fire. It's really nice. It's the most wonderful time of the year. I don't think it's supposed to set something up, but of course with this movie, anything that's set up is just knocked right back down. It felt very cozy. For sure. And then we bust right into a man riding a bike down the fucking New York Expressway? I was like, oh, this is a good argument for bike lanes. And then I was like, he's on the highway! There's a fucking toll booth.
Starting point is 00:05:46 What is this guy doing? And he is keeping pace. He's not even breaking a sweat in his little windsuit. So we realized that he's riding behind his chauffeur, because he wanted to ride out to the airport and be very fit. And from this point, you're like, oh you're a dick. Get in the car. Everybody has to ride in a car sometimes. You're going to drop the fuck off, just get in the car. Someone just drove your luggage there. That's just as shitty, you know?
Starting point is 00:06:15 He gets, we learned that he's going to Rome. And there's a message for him at the gate. And there's a bunch of people standing around the information desk and he just like walks up and he's like, hey, it's me, you called me? Like, fucking waited line. And he puts his bag down like right behind some guy so he can just trip right over it. Yeah, but it's rude. I love that he changed out of his clothes in the bathroom and just put his sweaty ass track suit in that bag for like six hour flight to Rome. And literally just dropped it on the floor and walked away
Starting point is 00:06:46 like you do at the airport. I think it's, he has a phone call from Jane and Jane's like, Jane, I can't see you right now, I'm going away Jane. Jane, I'll call you when I get back Jane. Jane, I have the reason I haven't seen you in six weeks, Jane is okay bye. But Jane's in the reason I haven't seen you in six weeks Jane is okay bye. But Jane's in the airport. Being accomplished by a lady and a very cool babushka. What does that lady do to his luggage?
Starting point is 00:07:16 It's like covered in like shit or something when he opens it up. And she just slashed up his old shitty tracks suit. And broke his watch. Yeah, the watch that he was going to give to Anne yeah Daria Nickelodey yes you love her too she's great she's great she's great never gets to use her own voice in movies yeah I would love to know what she sounds like just sounds like an Italian lady yeah nobody except for Peter Neal and John Saxon. I think you're using their real voices in this movie.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Genuinely was not convinced it was John Saxon's real voice either. Oh man. So then it cuts to a completely unrelated woman who I thought was Jane but eventually turns out not to be Jane, the woman who's shoplifting, wearing a beautiful white blouse blouse pink skirt combo. There are so many women in this movie that look like their their their their their their their their their their their their their their's shoplifting, wearing a beautiful white blouse pink skirt combo. There are so many women in this movie that look like that woman. Yes. That get murdered throughout this movie? I was like, oh well that's that's going to come up.
Starting point is 00:08:12 That like, they all look the same. There's going to be a reason. No, there's just beautiful beautiful women are going to to get murdered a lot. They were like there's there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there's there's there's there's there's just there's just there's just there's just there's just there's just there's just there's just, there's just, there's just, there's just, there's just, there's just, there's just, there's just, there's just, thi, thi, thi, th. There, th. There, th. There, there, th. There, there, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. that, that, that, that. that that. that. that, that. that. that, Argento is like, who cares if they're interchangeable? They're all going to die anyway. Yeah, I really thought that was Jane. It's not Jane. It's a woman who's shoplifting. Mm-hmm. Choplifting Peter Neal's book.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Because it's like literally all anyone can talk about is this fucking book. People are like jerking everyone's losing their mind? Right, he said he was writing like two a year, so it's they're not that good. Dean Coons, calm down. Really? So there's some heavy breathing happening behind the camera in the store. And I was like, oh good, heavy breathing. But I had just the night before watched Black Christmas to just like make
Starting point is 00:09:05 myself feel better about the state of the world. And I remembered how much I love heavy breathing in that film. So good. Have you seen the new Black Christmas the one from last year? No I saw the one from like 09. Okay. And they re-remade it because the 09 one was so bad. Yeah, okay. I just watched the one, I just watched it yesterday actually, the one from 2019. How is it? I love Imogene Poots, it turns out. You do love poots. I love poots. I love. You do love poots. I love poots. I love it. you do that. I love it. We will forget that. I said that later. Remind us when we don't remember. Yeah, I was thin. being stalked by someone. She gets busted by the like security guy pervert. He's a really man handling her. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's wrong. Come on. Yeah, that's right. Sure. He says convicted of shoplifting 12 times. And it's like where did you get the police? What? What? Just in that store I assume? God. And she's basically like, I don't know, let me go.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I'll fuck you. And he's like, eh, all right. Top. See you later then. She gets a lift from a guy on a motorcycle. Which I was like, do you know him or is it's just like, dog, let me get a lift? Unclear. Unclear. Unclear. She gets attacked by a homeless person.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Yeah, never walk that close to a fence again. I love that. Like, obviously that serves no purpose other than to be a fence for that man to be a fence for that man to be standing behind in the middle of the street. They put like a light construction tape. Nothing is being fenced the sfensed tha fence tha fensed tha fensed tha fensed tha fensed tha fensed tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha thatched tha thatched thatched thatched thatched thea thea thata thata that's that's that's that's that's that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's a thattaxed. thattaxed. thattaxed thata. the. thea. thea. thea. theaaaaaaaa. theaaaa. that that that that that that's a construction fence? Nothing is being fenced in except for that man. He kicks the shit out of him. It's the shit out of him, it's great! That is really great.
Starting point is 00:10:49 She kicks him right in the nuts and loved it. And then she gets to her apartment, which has the most impractical marble floor I've ever seen, but I fucking love it. And that's that's stark marble intense lighting on everything. Yeah. Another theme in this movie is that she's just like heaving, like, the huh, and we'll continue to do so for the next seven to eight minutes. She opens your tiny little fridge. Why did you have a fridge in her bedroom?
Starting point is 00:11:20 Was that our bedroom? Oh, now that actually is awesome. I thought that was in her kitchen. And I was like, you can't even get a pizza box in there. I'm pretty sure she walked out of the kitchen into that room, grabbed a beverage and then went somewhere else. I don't hate the idea of having a fridge in your bedroom, honestly. Put some fizzy waters, you know, some light snacks. Once I re- the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thuuuuuu thu thu thu thuic thu thu thi thi thi thi thoomo-a tho-a tho-a thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thu. thu. I thu. I thu thi thi thi thi thi th. thi th. I thi th. thi thi thi thi thi thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii wiring in the attic, I want to have a fridge up here for us. I thought that would be a really nice touch.
Starting point is 00:11:47 That would be really nice touch because I would like to fill it with white claws. Yeah. So she gets murdered. Yeah. While the man who attacked her watches from a window, she gets killed. Right. By an unknown assailant. Who's stuffing pages of a book in her mouth which is like incredibly graphic. It's like very upsetting. Yeah this movie was part of the video nasties that were banned in England for being too gross. Wow I don't think even this is like well I guess Fulcci was really the true gross oh sure sure sure I think they were
Starting point is 00:12:24 just after ban anything. They're like, ew, that's gross, ban it. I hate it. Yeah. Cut to John Saxon. My boyfriend and yours, John Saxon. Do you like his hat? No. Do you? Do you? Oh yeah, yeah, just because of what he does with it? He is just such a dildo. I don't like to see John Saxon as a dildo. I kind of like that he was getting to ham it up. He was hammy. He was very hammy, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:53 He's just like, so he's Peter Neal's agent. I'm unclear as to whether he's based in Rome, he came from New York also? I think he's just the Rome agent. How is he then having an affair with Jane? I don't know. Because something doesn't make sense here either he wasn't actually having an affair with Jane or Jane has been flying to Rome to fuck him or stay with me now. I've been following. Because he's going from New York to Rome. Jane follows because they're having an affair.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And none of it makes a like a sense. Okay, just making sure. I feel like that was like later on in the script they're like, they're having an affair. And everyone was just like, okay. Yeah, since a when? Right now? Yeah. I love how much press is waiting for Peter Neal at the airport. I was like, what author is getting this kind of treatment?
Starting point is 00:13:48 Fucking Dean Coonsman. Oh, he's getting the Kuntz treatment. Koonzing it up. Yeah, there's a huge reception for him. He's press waiting to talk to him everywhere, one of whom is a woman named Tilda, who is adorable, and I love those bangs, and she immediately gets on him about the book being sexist. And then he says, sexist, no, I don't think it's sexist.
Starting point is 00:14:13 And it's like, thank you, says the man, you know? The man says it's not sexist, lady. Must not be. I've always thought that that was Argento answering his critics for absolutely. thought that that was Argento answering his critics for how profoundly sexist his movies are. Absolutely and answering it badly. What? Yeah? He just said no? Yeah. It's a bit of a cell phone there that I don't think he he knew it was coming. I have a note my next note to say something nice about me.
Starting point is 00:14:40 Does someone say that? Uh, I'm pretty sure Peter Neal does about someone writing an article about him. What a gross though. Say something nice about me. And then he's like, John Saxon, that's a really nice hat. And John Saxon's like, do you like it? And then he says, does it fall off? He goes, no. And then swi't see him move that quickly. For sure. I feel like I expect him to have a better gravitas, like Larry Fish. At this point we also meet Anne, who is Peter Neal's secretary. And he's very touchy with her from the jump.
Starting point is 00:15:24 No, you don't say. I do say. He's starting to fuck every woman he encounters in this movie. I don't get Peter. I donhmm. And he's very touchy with her from the jump. No, you don't say. I do say. He's starting to fuck every woman he encounters in this movie. I don't get Peter Neil. No, he's very sexy. No. No.
Starting point is 00:15:34 I don't think that's what sexy means. He's got a great name. And Anthony Franciosa? He's got a great name and Anthony Franciosa? He's a meatball for sure. He's like a real Brooklyn Italian guy. When he tucs the crucifix into his white t-shirt I was like, whoa, this rules. That was like every Sunday meal in like childhood.
Starting point is 00:15:57 If it wasn't an Italian horn, it was a cross. Yeah. Or both. Yeah. Because you'reeraal and love Jesus. We meet the cops who come to immediately question him about why his book was stuffed in the victims mouth. It doesn't seem like their first line of inquiry but... I love the Italian police. I'm just like I had a thought that's what we're following up. Yeah, I wrote a I bet this is the last we see of these cops because of the because it's a JOLO movie and they usually show up for one scene and
Starting point is 00:16:35 that's it. Well they have to come back and tell him to solve the crime. Well I thought that was sort of happening in this scene and then we could just be th done done done done done done done done they are main characters. When they he gets a phone call it's somebody saying that they're the murderer because he gets a note under his door that's a quote from his book and then he gets the phone call and he like signals to the cops that the phone calls coming from outside the cops go running outside because there was a phone booth okay and someone was talking at it. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. I. I. I. I. I was. the the their. their. their. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they. I. I. I. I. at it. He said I can see you. The person on the other line. The other end of the line said I could see you. And so the cops run outside, they lose the the person on the phone. And the male cop is like, if I had a strapping man cop. We would have caught him. And then the ladies cop response is then you'd have nothing to complain about bitch about which I loved I was like I love you
Starting point is 00:17:30 you are my hero of the film I wanted her just to do the jerk off motion I did like how Peter Neal says to the cops if someone is killed with a Smith & Wesson do you go and talk to the president of Smith and Wesson it's like well because you're the president of Tenabre? President of my books? Such a dick. And the cop also has the terrible line in that exchange where Anne offers him a drink and he goes, I only drink on duty. Yeah, yeah. Fuck you, cop. He's also a bit of a meatball. He says to Peter Neal. I think, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I, he. He, he, he, he, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the president, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's. He. He. He's. He's. He. He's. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's, he's, he's, he's. He's, he's, he's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the president. the president. the the the president. the the the president. the president. the president. the president. the the the theal, I think you'll get another letter and another. And I was like, well, you're obviously the killer. And then he throws the leather bag because Peter Neal has opened his bag and seen that the clothing is slashed and the watch has been smashed.
Starting point is 00:18:18 And he tells them about it. And so they just started rifling through all of the evidence. And then the guy cop just throws it at the lady cop's face and she just like catches it at the last second. It's a living. This is also where we meet a character that having seen this movie probably roughly 10 times. I own it on DVD. This is the first time I watched it with subtitles.
Starting point is 00:18:40 That kid's name was Johnny. Not Gianni. And I was like, oh shit, his name's Gianni. Well you could be forgiven for thinking that he had an Anglo name because he's fucking British. Why is he British? Why is Gianni British? He's the only Brit in the film. It's so weird. Johnny. Oh man. Oh boy. So then we see the beach scene.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Oh the flashback. Can you talk to me about what's happening in this scene? You have to describe it because you picked this movement. So this is a scene where a woman's going down to beach. And three teen boys are following her. or four, sorry, four teen boys. And she's being very flirtatious with three of them. She's into it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:36 And then what I was like, why don't have the no orgy stuff? Now I remember why? That's it. And uh, she rebuffs the fourth one with a thumbs down, which I was, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, thuu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, thi, thi, that, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thooooooooooo. that, thooo. that, thi, thi, thi, the fourth one with a thumbs down, which I fucking love. I love a thumbs down. It's just like, no, not happening. Especially in Rome. Come on, it works perfectly. She strips down from the, just to show off her boobs.
Starting point is 00:19:58 On the beach. the beach. the thumbs down, he smacks her. The boys tackle him. And she jams her her the high the high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high high the beach. So she gives him the thumbs down, he smacks her, the boys tackle him, and she jams her high heel into his mouth. It's so dope. Yeah. Yeah. And then that's where that scene.
Starting point is 00:20:14 This time. This time. We'll be back to the beach. And we'll be back for more tits because in the next scene, Tilda's girlfriend just has her tits out in the cafe. They are just out. Dude, she fucking rules. What is her deal? No, she's so mean to Tilda. She really is. She's a monster. She's amazing. She has a sheer shirt on. She has a sheer shirt, on. Because first of all, the bra budget for this movie was zero. She has a sheer shirt on. You can clearly see her tits. tits. tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. tie. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. t. t. t. ttthe. ttttttttie. tie. tie. the's, the's, t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. tt. ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttti. ti. ti. tttut. ttt shirt on, you can clearly see her chits through it, and then it just falls off. One of them is just trying to like inch its way out the whole time. It's like, yeah, it's a very scooppy neck and then one of them makes a break, makes a run for it. It just seems like a very toxic relationship for TILLA. Oh for sure, for sure. They're roommates who occasionally have like roommates with benefits I think the kids would call them in 1995. And I think like you know Tilda wants more from their relationship.
Starting point is 00:21:19 Dario not not really goody, a good treatment of, you know, homosexual relationships in any way, shape, or form ever in any of his movies. No, it's weird in this because they are depicted as very, as different and weird. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But then also you have like Peter Neal being like, no, it's fine to be gay. Like you have this message, but then he turns out spoilers to be the bad guy so was he wrong all along it's it's a just such a weird treatment of homosexuality. Right because Tilda is like this like man hating, lesbian like like idiotic. John Saxon calls her the D word. Yeah yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:58 and it's real shitty it's just such a bummer. She's still great like in all of the the scenes ss. Like th. Like ss. It is such a bummer. She's still great, like in all of the scenes that she's in. Yeah. But I really do love her partner slash rubber. I think she's a veil. Like that she's just like, yeah, these things are going to be out. Deal with it. Yeah. Just tits out. Enjoy your coffee. I'm gonna go fuck this guy playing centipede. And then she seems to this this this this this the th a the the th play the the to f f f f play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play play the the the the the the the the the their canteanteanteanteanteanteanteanteanteante. Yeah, that's her comfort sheet. Why doesn't she tell? Why doesn't she ge a towel? Imagine getting out of the shower and putting on a sheet. How else is she going to get her boobs out though? Man, robes have a way for boobs. So we go back to the house, Tilda comes home, and the roommate's like, he was wonderful and they have this fight.
Starting point is 00:22:58 She's yeah, she's rubbing it in her face. That's mean. And then Tilda, who's also not wearing a bra, takes her shirt off in midway up with her shirt being off Her shirt gets slashed. Yeah, but we get the iconic image from Tenebrae of the woman's mouth wide open That she's shocked yeah, as she is murdered however. Yeah, moments earlier. Yeah, moments earlier. She believes she's heard someone someone whispering to her. Uh-huh. I feel like if you thought someone was whispering in your home like would taken off your shirt off your her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her their her her her their her their her shirt her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her her their their their their their their their t. She's t. She's tip. She's tip. Her tip. someone whispering to her. I feel like if you thought someone was whispering in your home, like would taking off your shirt on your brawless body be the first thing you did? She's very vulnerable. For sure. Oh, before the murder though, we get the crane shot, which is this amazing piece of cinematography where the, like without a cut the camera goes all the way up and over the house and back down the other side. That explains my note of a very long exterior shot of the building in which I kind of forgot what I was supposed to be looking for.
Starting point is 00:23:59 And the roommate is listening to Goblin really loudly in her room. And Tilda is yelling at her because like that's rude. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. the. the. the. the. It's. And Tilda is yelling at her because like that's rude. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. It's okay though because the roommate gets her head through a paint of glass because that's a thing Dario Argento fucking loves. Yeah. Why always glass? I don't know. Just his thing.
Starting point is 00:24:19 It's like faulty putting shit in people's eyes. Like, they got a thing, they love it. We all have our things, I guess. Yeah. Oh, we did forget the line where Tilda says you're rubbing it in my face and she goes, not your face, honey, not tonight. Ah, I miss that. That's so mean. Oh, Tilda deserves better than this. But she's dead now. Now she's dead, so that's fine, I guess. There's a close-up of blood being washed off a scalpel, which I really like.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I think it's very beautiful. And then the next scene has two Marios and Luigi's. They were Mario and Luigi, right? I have a note that says, workman looks like a couple of Mario's. Yeah, one's short, one's tall, the tone and thin and short and plump. They're wearing the cover-alls, like, they are Mario and Luigi. And another letter gets dropped off to Peter Neal. Yeah. These guys are working in the hallway.
Starting point is 00:25:24 I don't know what the fuck they're doing. Why are they in this movie? I don't know. They have lines. They're not just working in the background. We are like introduced to them. And we see them fucking around with something, and it never pays off.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Why are they there? They must have meant to be some some some some some some some some some some some some some some some some the the to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to idea that there's somebody's cousins. I love the idea that there's somebody. Mario, Mario, do you want to be in this movie? Yeah. I'm Luigi. Okay, Green Mario. We meet the daughter of the person who runs the hotel that Peter Neal is staying in and she rolls
Starting point is 00:26:05 up to her dad and she's like 5000 lira daddy? Yeah, okay that's a weird introduction to somebody but hurry. Yeah, I think that's teen girls. So Peter Neal gets another letter, looks out the window, sees Jane drive by. Bump on Jane. Right. And dials her number from memory. And she gets her answering machine. Yeah. Yeah, because she's not New York. I was under the impression they'd broken up. Yeah, because he hadn't seen her for weeks without an explanation. Yeah, that's probably why you got that. Yeah, that's probably why you got that. Yeah, and at some point she's called his fiancé. Right!
Starting point is 00:26:47 At the end, like, we're meant to believe that she was still his fiance. Yeah. If you're engaged to someone, and they're in the same country as you, and you don't talk to from the hotel 5,000 lira daddy. She gets dropped off by a guy on a motorcycle that she has a fight with. That guy is Michaela Suave, who has been in a fucking ton of movies that we've done. I still don't know who it is, but I know the name. He's the guy with the metal face in demons.
Starting point is 00:27:26 He's... Uh, motorcycle, Katana Blade. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. We do this every time, don't we? Yeah. I swear to God it's one year and out the other. He's just showed up in a lot of stuff, and I hope to do one of the movies We both do. You can say no to them. I never do, though, do I?
Starting point is 00:27:47 So I got confused when the girl Maria left, because she leaves with Gianni, and they have like a weird sexual tension moment where he's like, roared and chases her out the door, and she's like, he-he-hee and runs out. Teens, what do you go to? And then. And then. And the next. And the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, the next, the next, the next next, the next, the next, the next, is the next, is the next, is the next, is the next, is the next, is, is thi, is thi, thi, is thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi-he and runs out. Teens, what do you get to? And then the next, is Johnny a teen? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Okay, the next thing you know... And Italian. Righto. The next scene, she's getting on a motorcycle with a man with a helmet on. And I was like, oh, she's leaving with Johnny. And I got real confused by that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the thin, thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi. thin. thin. thin' thin' the the the thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thi-in' thi. And thi. And thi. the next, the next, the next, the next, the next, the next, the next, the next, the next. And, the next. And, the next. And, the the the the the the the the the the the the the thin' thin' thin' thin' thin. And, thin. And thin. And thin. And thin. And thin. thin. thin. thin. things-a-a' things-a' things-a' thin. And thin. And thin confused by that. Nope, somebody else. Maybe that's what you need the $5,000 lira for. So why did they have that weird sexual attention moment then? Who can say? Okay. All right, just making sure.
Starting point is 00:28:35 So she gets off the motorcycle and is wandering around this like, brutalist neighborhood of like... So gross. Of just a thousand different fence types and all the sudden this dog comes running at her this Doberman and it climbs over a fence to get to her that dog that dog is relentless yeah it's terrifying yeah I was antagonizing it too though like don't fucking antagonize that dog Maria just leave don't run walk away yeah yeah oh you know what though like don't fucking antagonize that dog Maria just leave. Don't run walk away. Yeah. Oh you know what though you can't fault someone for running. It's true. It's true. You'll never outrun them though. No I know
Starting point is 00:29:13 the one I didn't when I was a little girl. Me neither. But like this is a fucking nightmare for me being chased by a dog. For sure. Fucking nightmare material. Yeah, yeah. Having been... Stop letting them live in your house! I've been chased and bit by a dog? Yes, we too. Yeah. Yeah. Um. The dog is agile. He's like... It's super well trained. It must do like like agility training because it is insane. It is just, it's like doing the rings in a gymnastics routine. I don't know who trained this dog. When it runs up the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their th. It must th. It must must must th. It must th. It must th. It must th. It must th. It must th. It must th. It must th. It must th. It must the. It must th. It's th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I don't know who trained this dog. When it runs up to the one fence and it looks at it, it looks at it, it's like, okay, all right, and it like looks behind it and looks back at the fence, like, okay, knows how far back it needs to run. It's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:54 And then leaps the god's. You know, it's like having a dog who has thumbs, you've lost, you know. My dogs are still wicked stupid. I feel like we're doing great. So stupid. Well, I think we forgot to mention this before the scene though, is the interview with Cristiano Berti? Oh yeah, Roberto. My notes are very sparse, so yes, I probably forgot to put that in there. He's like, he's like going thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th like, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, I thi, I tho, I tho. I tho. I tho. I that's that's that's that's tho. I that's thi, I thi, I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi I probably forgot to put that in there. He's like, he's like going to interview Peter Neal and he says, are you ready for this to get heavy? And Peter Neal's like, this is daytime TV. Are you sure you want to do that? And the interviewer is like, yeah, I guess not.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Weren't you prepared? And he's like a superfan because he's like, thi and he's like, thi and he's like, thi and he's like, thi and he's like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to to to to to to, to to, to, to, to, to to, to to to, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to be th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. the. the the the the thean, the the thean, the thean, thean, thi. thi what he writes. Right, and he seems like according to Peter Neal he's misreading it. Yeah. But I dismissed that at this point because someone else has told him it's sexist and he dismisses that and this guy's telling him that it's about like human perversion affecting society and he dismisses that as well. So I thought maybe Peter Neal just doesn't know what he's doing. Anyway, that will come back. Yes. So she hops the fence and is in this like beautifully landscaped backyard. The house is so weird looking. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I hate it. So this is probably a good time to bring this up. In later interviews, Argento has talked about how this movie is supposed to be set 15 years in the future.
Starting point is 00:31:25 From 1982? Yeah. Okay. Where something horrific has happened and there's less people in Rome, which is why there's often shots where no one's around. What? Wait, what? How would we have ever? There's no way to figure this out? Yeah, for sure. So what he's saying is they couldn't get very many extras? Well, but he wanted, this, what, this, this, this, this, thii. this, thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.a, thi.a. thi. thi.a. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. this out. Yeah, for sure. So what he's saying is they couldn't get very many extras. Well, but he wanted this like stark brutalist, that's why that house's architecture is so weird. He wanted a future-looking house to have this stuff go down in. That's why the one house is all like concrete, where he does the big crane shot over it. And he didn't want anything to look Roman. He didn't want it to to look There's like a scene in a piazza where like many Italians are yelling at each other.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Oh for sure. Okay, that's all I wanted to say. So Maria finds herself in the basement of this house trying to escape from the dog. And she finds a bunch of like crime scene photos and newspaper clippings and just starts shoving them in her pocket. She's just shoving them into her skirt. Not what I would think to do I don't think. She's suddenly like, hmm, I'm about to solve a crime. Right?
Starting point is 00:32:34 Like, I don't think a 17 year old girl would do this, but okay. I think you would just go, hmm, this guy's a freak. Kind of a weirdo. I gotta get out of here. Oh, the dog's barking. Maybe I'll just hide. Eventually, that dog's gonna go away. So then we, she gets attacked. Yeah, she sees a pair of scissors, does not take them as a weapon. Steels evidence instead of the weapon. And then is like surprised when the person who lives in the house comes at her, but like,
Starting point is 00:33:08 even if they aren't a killer, you just filled your pockets with their belongings. Sure. Yeah, they might be mad. Give me back my murder photos. Yeah. Which he doesn't pick up later, which is a fun point. No, does someone runs them over with a lawnmower? Yeah, fucking landscaping. You could just fucking pick him up. Just pick him up with your hands. This is where I have the hilarious note. He axes her a question. I was expecting that. Don't worry, it'll come back later. I like when he's running with two hands
Starting point is 00:33:37 on the axe, so it's just being held in front of him as though he's holding the reins of a horse. Or pushing a lawnmower! Yeah, like it is the most inefficient way to run, you can imagine. Holding an axe perpendicular to your body or whatever. It was one of those perfect Argento moments where I bet he was like, oh, we've got to see that he still has the axe. So put it right in front of the camera. We would not know otherwise. Poor Maria gets a. Yeah. Yeah. But the landscaper finds her body. Right.
Starting point is 00:34:10 After he's cut up all the evidence with a lawnmower. Also, I feel like if you are a landscaper and there's like photos strewn all over the lawn, you probably just pick them up because running him over is going to make a big mess. Yeah, just burn over. People usually leave stuff they want shredded in the front yard. Like we put all, the their their their their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but the l, but the l, but the l, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but the land, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, but their, their, their, their, their, th, th, their, tho, tho, tho, tho, but the luh, but tho, but tho, but ththem over. People usually leave like stuff they want shredded in the front yard. Like we put all our bills out there. Oh, you like your old tax returns and stuff. Mm-hmm. That's fair. Just wait for the fucking landscaper.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So the cops come back, talk to Peter. And now Peter has a hunch. Yes, because he's a detective writer. And he's also, we've seen him reading Hound of the Baskervilles and he keeps like quoting Sherlock Holmes. You can tell he just thinks he's like, Mr. Detective.
Starting point is 00:34:57 The actual detective says something to him like, uh, I read detective novels and I'm a detective and I never guess who the killer is and I thought, boy you're a shit-ass detective. In his defense, I also never guess who the killer is. Really? Yeah, I'm terrible at it. I don't know. I think it's just because I just watch things, like I don't think about them while I'm watching them.
Starting point is 00:35:22 That's right. So Gianni says maybe we should tell the police about this idea that you have, Peter. And he's like, nah. He's like, no, there won't believe me. Just like, this guy is literally coming to you to solve the crime. He said to you, we're going to need your help to solve this. And you're like, I won't participate. thah I. thah I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. thi. I thi. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. So there's a newscast going on about the murder, Maria's murder. And the newscaster talks about how a threat was made that the next person to be killed would
Starting point is 00:35:55 be the great corruptor. And he's like, oh, probably a lot of businessmen and politicians leaving the city after this. And it's like, cool joke in a a murder a broadcast about the murder of a 17 year old girl guy it's it's so silly so they go to follow up his hunch they leave Dariah alone or Anne I should say yeah when she sees Jane and then is this when her and Jane have the heart to heart I think first Jani and to the to the to the the to the the the the they. I thi thi. I think first, Gianni and Peter go to Burdo's house. Yeah. And Gianni sees him get killed by an axe, but doesn't see who's swinging it.
Starting point is 00:36:38 And when we find Peter, Neil, he has like a wound on the back of his head and there's a bloody rock nearby. Sure. There's a couple problems with this too. Yeah, wouldn't his front be all splattered? I'm not I mean if he if you yeah, yes, it'd be horrible Yeah, and why did he hit himself so hard? This is piece pretty fucked up. It has like a piece of toilet paper on the back of his head for the rest of the movie? I? I also thire, th. the the the the the the he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he has he has he has like, he's he's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's, he's, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he. He's like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th th th thi, th th th th thi, the th the movie. The entire remainder of the film. I also, this is also quintessential Argento where someone sees something but they can't remember a coin what they saw. Right, you would 100% probably remember if you remember the murder. 100% probably. It's bad. It's just, at this point you're like, oh Peter's the killer. Oh did you? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I briefly then th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. Starting point is 00:37:29 Oh, okay. But it wasn't. Yeah, I mean, it could have been the cop. I knew it wasn't the cop. Certainly wasn't Gianni that dumb. I very briefly considered the possibility that it was Anne, but then whenever they showed like the hay, it was always very hairy arms. Sure. You should have known it was the meatball.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Yeah. I knew it was A. Meeb-ball. What if it was one of the Marios? You're like, oh, that's why you showed up. So yeah, so Jane finally talks to Anne. Oh, this is, that's after Peter and Anne bone down. Oh, yeah, and then he makes her sleep on the couch! She wakes up looking so uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:38:13 Why does he do that? First of all, did they fuck on that couch? I think they fucked on the couch and he went to bed. I like it better that they started making out on the couch and then went to his bed and he was like back to the couch with you man. Okay, we're done. And they just start starfishing on the bed. Yep. What an asshole. But after they bone we get another flashback to the beach. And in this one, McKellé Swave is a guy standing on the beach and I get so excited that he's in two scenes in this movie that are in different timelines. And this is where we see the woman who put her heel in the point of view person's mouth gets stabbed.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Right. Yeah. Those are some cheap heels. I feel like they could have gotten better looking heels. I don't know. When Jane gets them later, she's very excited about them. They look shitty. So but we have no idea what these visions is the w w w w w w w the w the w the w the w she's very excited about them. They look shitty. So but we have no idea what these visions are, who this woman is, or why any of this is happening. And at the end, you like sort of now. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:14 You could beast it together as it's going along for sure. So now opens John Saxon's storyline, where he is just trying to make a deal, he's trying to also hide Peter Neal away so that they can make this deal. Because Peter wants to go to Paris to get out of Rome. Right. And he's like, hey let me just put you up in this place, nobody will know where you are. Yeah, he says nobody but you and I will know where you Oh, maybe he's the killer, but he's not. He's not. We'll make a million dollar deal. Yeah. Did you like his closed circuit TV to his secretary? That he's talking to her on the phone and then he turns and snaps on a little black and
Starting point is 00:39:54 white TV and she's looking at it like, ah. This fucking guy. Why? Yeah. So that must be his regular office. Otherwise, why would you have a closed circuit TV to your secretary? You know what I mean? For sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:08 And I think that, but he lives in Rome. I think that closed circuit TV is also supposed to be like, huh? Probably like 15 years in the future. When we have these, might I like 15 years in the future. I'm going to talk about this later and make it up. It's hard to say that in the year 2020, but I guess you're right. Then we see him kissing Jane and it is the least sexy kiss I've ever seen. Because I've never seen John Saxon kiss anyone before, you know. And it is really bad. It's like kind of did away with some of my John Saxon thing.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Ooh, he's a bad kisser. I mean, it's situational. I'm sure he was fine in actual romantic liaisons. It's too late now. Can't do it on film? Can't do it with me John. Well, it's because he's dead. Oh, right. That's not funny. But so they're, but when they start talking, Jane and John Saxon, they're like, we have
Starting point is 00:41:05 to, we can't let Peter find out blah blah blah blah. And I thought, Peter doesn't care about this, he hasn't seen you in six weeks and it seems like it was his choice. So why the fuck does he care? Who literally can say? I don't know. And poor Gianni is a mess emotionally. And Peter's still making him drive everywhere. Gianni is just driving and crying. And he's driving and crying and causes a big accident and they just keep driving.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Like just go ahead and leave the scene of that one. Speaking of hamming it up, Peter Deale's reaction to them going through the intersection, just like, gnar! I thought maybe Gianni as the only Brit in this movie was having, Peter, Peter, Peter, Peter, was having, was having, th, was having, th, th, th, th, th, I was having, I was having, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, th reaction to them going through the intersection, I was like, yeah. I thought maybe Gianni, as the only Brit in this movie, was having a hard time driving on the right side of the road. So then we see John Saxon get killed in the piazza. Literally does everyone in Italy just scream at each other all day? Why are there so many people fighting in that scene? I, there must be something he was trying to say like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like. the like. the like. the like. the like. the like. their? their. their their their their their their their their their their. their. I. I. I. I. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. I. I. I. the. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I.. I.. I. I. I. the. I. I. I. I. I. the. I. I. the. I. I. the. I. in that scene? There must be something he was trying to say about like this like animus in public that people are having or something because there's so many fights going on. Yeah. There's a woman just sobbing as a man screams at her. Yeah. She's sobbing soaring so hard she almost steps on John Saxon's body.
Starting point is 00:42:23 What if she just walked over him? I don't know what the statement is their their their their their their their their the statement.. the statement. the statement. the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement the statement over him? I don't know what the statement is there. Yeah, neither do I. But we do get some sweet, sweet movie punks. Just a quick, quick little, like two dudes with Mohawks just standing in the middle of the mall. I must have missed it. I'm so sorry. You can't blink of these movie punks are gone. Yeah. So he stabbed for some reason. Yeah, he's not, oh, because he's an adulterer. Yeah. But he's not, unless he's married, I don't know. Would you be married to that guy?
Starting point is 00:42:53 Probably not. Don's exoner his character? Neither of them are married, really, I don't think. No, no, I'm fian thian. I red high-heeled feet walking towards the body because she has been delivered the shoes and her residence and She just turns and runs away Which is so fucked up so fucked up so fucked up But when John Saxon's getting stabbed he's like he recognizes the person who's stabbing him. There's like this look of recognition Oh, okay, and then surprise and then death. How did Peter Neal pull that off by the way? Oh? Oh? Oh? Oh? I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I th. I th. I th. I the? I th. I the the the the the the they. She's the. She has the. She has the. She has the. She has the. She has the. She has they. She's they. She's th look of recognition in this space. And then surprise and then death. How did Peter Neal pull that off by the way? Ooh, I wish I knew. I do not know.
Starting point is 00:43:29 I do not know. He gets on a plane to fly to Paris. No he doesn't. No he doesn't. No he doesn't. But Gianni goes back to the murder house because he's got to solve this. And then he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he is he is he is he is he is he is he is he is he is he is he is he. he is he is he. he is the the the the he is he is he is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the. the. the. th solve this. And then he has a different version of the memory in which it wasn't another person saying I killed them I killed them all it was Cristiano. Uh-huh. Okay. He's the murderer. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. And then he gets murdered. Right. He gets an axe to the face, which, by the way, is great. Oh, my god, it's amazing. Love it. thi. to thi. th. th. th. th. th i. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gets murdered. Right, he gets an axe to the face, which by the way is great. Oh my god, it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Love it. Um, I hope, I can't get over how many different types of fencing around this fucking house. It drives me insane. I know, what were they thinking? Well, the murderer takes his keys, Johnny gets strangled in the car. Killer gets the axe from the tree. That's right, why is the axe in the tree? Is that where it's stored? It was like hidden a little bit from some ivy and the cops were like, I don't see an axe. I don't know what try to. Yeah, I don't understand that at all.
Starting point is 00:44:37 It was dirty with blood, too. It wasn't even cleaned. So this is when Jane's Jane the Jane the Jane the Jane the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. they. the the the th is like is like the the the the th is like is like is like the the th is th. the the the th. th. th. th. th. th is is is. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is. th is. thi is thi is tree. tree. tree. tree is tree is tree is tree is. tree is tree is tree is tree is tree is tree. tree is tree. tree is. tree is. tree is. they're going to go meet up. Jane's gonna, or Anne's gonna come to where Jane is. Right. Because Jane's like I fucked up. I'm gonna wait here with this gun pointed up the door. Where did Jane get a gun? Uh-huh. Okay. And then as she's sitting there waiting at the, with her gun, put it at the door, an axe comes down and chops her fucking arm off.
Starting point is 00:45:07 I love it so much. This scene is pure art. It's beautiful, it really is. When she arcs blood over the wall, oh, it's like Jackson Pollock, it's amazing. It is. And then it's like, then she turns around it and she's being shot from behind and the arm is like flapping and sprying blood. It's amazing. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Oh, and then she could axe in the back and yeah, she's dead. It does like a lingering shot on like a weird tall metal sharp sculpture that is definitely not going to come back. So then we see the final installment of the flashback killing of the beach woman. This is where we see her shoes get stolen. So we were like oh those shoes can't oh we'd already figured that out Argento but that's fine. Playing my bang. And then Anne lets herself into the house and the killer axes her, but it's not Anne. It's the lady cop. I liked the lady cop. Me too.
Starting point is 00:46:14 And this is where we see that the X-Men is Peter. Yeah. Uh-huh. Were you shocked? Uh, no, too confused maybe, it would be a better... Same. Then the meatball cop comes in with Anne, and she is like totally unreactive to learning that her boss and sometimes lover is a murderer. She's like, huh? Peter? Peter?
Starting point is 00:46:38 Well? A murder who thought he was murdering Anne. Right. But it was like sad that he murdered Anne and you're supposed to feel bad about it? No. And then Peter stands up and slits his own throat. But so first, first, the meatball cop confronts him about why he's done this. And he's like, so you knew that you had an alibi for the first murder so you knew that we wouldn't
Starting point is 00:47:05 get you and you killed Bulmer and Jane the people to people you hated the most and it's like he hadn't why he hadn't spoken to her in six weeks it's so confusing yeah but he does slit his own throat to which I have the note that says I bet Alan loves this mm-hmm yeah's great. Especially when the cop figures out that he didn't slid his own throat because he takes Anne outside of the car and he comes back inside and realizes that the knife is just a toy knife that squirts blood. Why did he go back inside? We're never told why? You know the cop stuff. You had to go do the cop things, fill its paperwork. Get the body of your partner off the ground? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:47:47 I, at that point, before he went back in, I was sort of shocked that the cops solved it, because that doesn't generally happen in these movies. Sure. But I guess he really kind of didn't. Because he lays out to Anne in the car, the car, the car, the car, the car, the car, the car, the car, the car, the the the the the the the the, thi, thi, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, too, too, to, too, too, too, too, to. I. I. I, to. to. to. to. to. to. I, to. I. I, to. I, to. I. I. I, to. I, to. And, to. And, to. And, to. And, to. And, to, to. And, to. And, to, to. And, toe, toe, toe, toe, too, too, too, too, too, too?a.a.a.a.a.a. I'm too. And, too. And, too.a. I too. And, too. And, toe. And, toe. And, to Anne in the car that Peter Neal was accused of a murder. So we then, oh, now I see he's the beach guy. Right, he's the beach guy. But it was never proven that he did it. So he just marches back into the house for like seemingly no reason.
Starting point is 00:48:17 He's the Peter's body is gone, picks up the knife, and then the knife, and then we get one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history. Describe it. So he stands back up and he's looking at the knife and then he moves and you realize his right ear has been Peter Niel's ear who's been standing behind him and it's amazing that their heads lined up so well. It is really spooky. And then like, you know, watching it again, I'm like, oh, Anthony Francissiosa has a huge ears. Really? Yeah, he does. They really stick out from his hand. It's great. But it like gives this scene so much like, that ear isn't his ear. Right, like you expect that he's, the
Starting point is 00:49:01 Peter's lurking somewhere, right? But not that that ear was his ear yeah I feel like I will like excuse all idiocy of this plot because that scene is so fucking good it is great and then he acts as him a question I had that no yeah you did and and here's the cop screaming through the rain. The implication is that Anne hears a statue falling from outside on the street in a car in the rain. No she does not. So she has to go back in but the statue is the the pointy statue that we saw earlier has blocked the door. because of course it is. And she's trying to jam it open and the the rain is the the pointy statue that we saw earlier has blocked the door because of course it is and she's trying to jam it open and and uses so much fucking force and it's so strong she passed her strength
Starting point is 00:49:53 check yeah critical yeah and shoots a piece of the statuary into his tum nailing him to the wall all the way through all the way through his tum tum what and then he just tries tries tries tries to try to try try he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he the the to to to the to to to the the the to to the the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to try to try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. to to to to to to to to to to to try his tum-tum nailing him to the wall. All the way through, all the way through his tum-tum. What? And then he just tries to pull it, tries to pull it, tries to pull it while blood is gushing out of the little tunnel. And she is screaming. Yeah. Great scream.
Starting point is 00:50:17 Yeah. My final note, perfection. Oh my god. Well on that note, why don't you rate this thing? I love this movie. Yeah. Some people have called this the best Dario Argento movie. I think it's the best of his Zialo-Movies. I think it's exactly what you want you you you you you of film, which is nonsense, murder, and who the fuck? How the fuck did he do these crimes? How the fuck did you do these?
Starting point is 00:50:53 Revelation at the end of it. Like how did he, I'm sorry you were going to give it a rating, but I just really quickly need to say, how did he kill Cristiano in front of that plate glass window and have Johnny not see him? He was standing there. He's just that good. He's not though. That was his first murder, well, the second murder. He murdered John Saxon in a public place.
Starting point is 00:51:22 How, in lunchtime in a like bustling area. He murdered that beach lady at a party next to Michaela Suave. Yeah. Yeah. It's very confusing. This movie's a fucking nine. I love it. Not a ten. No. How about you, Katie? You know, I have to say this is my favorite Jalo film we've done. Oh nice. Yeah, it was the most palatable for me. I sort of enjoyed the who-donet. t. No. t. the, no. t. t. the, t. t. t. t. t. t. t. the, t. t. te, te, the, te, t. t. te, te, te, t. te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the t. t. t. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te, te. te. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. te. te. te, te, te, te, to say, this is my favorite Jalo film we've done. Oh, nice. It was the most palatable for me. I sort of enjoyed the who done it aspect of it. Because until I realized it was Peter, I was really like, who could it be? And he's saying all this stuff about like he's quoting like from Hound of the Baskervilles when he says, when home says, when you eliminate the, um, all probabilities, it must be the impossible or whatever yeah which I really like and I thought it was a I thought it was a nice who done it even if who done it makes becomes a why done it becomes a why done it yeah a why done it and
Starting point is 00:52:14 the hoe done it and also how done it but honestly I felt it was very enjoyable I'm gonna give it a seven oh nice yeah I love it yeah oh it's so good I mean no I'm not going that far. I said it was enjoyable. Katie, yeah. Can I take you to a little place that we'd like to call? Mailbag! Please. This review is from Dave O Reno 1969? N1 nice. Five Nice. Five stars. The header is, oh Katie. Love this podcast, hilarious every time. Keep it up and please make more YouTube videos. Oh, man.

Or it could be like exasperation like okay okay or it could be like surprise like oh Katie or it could be like sexy like oh Katie or it could be just like anger like oh Katie what do you mean by that Dave Areno 1969 I need a clarification what do you say something nice about me? Before Ellen read that review out loud, I was genuinely thinking how much I enjoyed hearing him laugh and both of them laugh together. Anyways, I thought I'd put a review out to balance it. Thank you. Thank you so kindly. Person Spooky. So nice of you. It's so nice of you. And you so kindly. That's a person spooky. So nice of you.
Starting point is 00:54:26 That's so nice. And you know what? You can laugh all you want. Anyone who doesn't like it can get fucked. Yeah, you don't have to listen. Yeah. I'm a big lafer. I like to laugh.

How about with a young John Boyega? I'm sort of indifferent to him, but I'm sure he's fine. How about with a doctor who? I love Jody Whitaker. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And how about with someone that I thought was in Penny Dreadful, but it's not.
Starting point is 00:55:26 Josh Hartnett. No. Luke Treadwell, but we'll get to that next week. With the film, Attack the Block. Mm-hmm. 2011, I think I rented it on the Amazon. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a good time.

Starting point is 00:56:22 Yeah, think about how much you care about us. Think about how much Alan doesn't want to watch a Lindsay Lohan? It's true. I think about how much Alan doesn't want to watch a Lindsay Lohan movie. I want to watch it because I'm sure there's a hundred percent chance that she will say, what's that among the shadows? So please go vote on that. So uh, take care of yourselves? their their their their their their their their their th. that. It will be up for about a week. Yeah. We might be putting a new, we haven't talked about it. We might be putting our new design up there. I do love Justin Gray's outdone himself once again. I mean it's fantastic. It's intense. I love it, I'm afraid to wear it. So we'll see if that happens. Yeah. It's for the bold wearable family fan. I don't know. Talk to us. We're around. Yeah. Yeah. Katie's been killing it at Twitter.
