Yeah. Colleen, tell us about the movie you picked. Oh yeah, so I picked a movie. It's called The Ritual. I believe this is a podcast about movies. It is. Often, often about movies. Why did you pick the ritual?

It's an Indonesian film, I believe. thii. It's to to the the the the the the the the the the thi. It's in English for some reason and dubbed really weirdly. I was made to understand that the actors just were speaking the lines phonetically and they didn't actually know what they were saying. I'm sure. Okay, yeah. So, I mean, most of the, there's, what is it, probably like two pages of dialogue anyway in the whole film. It's not a lot.

It's just like this guy like this guy like this guy this this this this a lot largely just like this guy yelling, fuck! Yeah I like to try to make it like sort of American like that like yeah it's very vulgar and his name is John Evans like that man is not John Evan. The one kid's name is Devon. It was very strange because I'm current American action films are all geared to selling overseas. So there's like, that's why the dialogue is like inconsequential to them. That's why they're all, like all those Avengers movies are just like, bang, smash, boom, ah! Yeah.

So to have like that kind of thrown back at us is very strange. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Thobey. Let's spoil it away. So in the beginning, this guy just wakes up in the middle of the forest. He's actually buried. You know, you see a hand pop out. And then he's running around, he's trying to figure out what's going on. He gets into a house and he sees a house and there's a, he goes inside, there's a video camera in it, and then he says to press play, like there's a post-it on it.

So he presses play, and then this video shows up on a TV in the house. It's showing a murder of a woman, but you can't see. Wearing a terrible pregnancy prosthetic. Oh yeah. I think it may have been a pillow. It was like flopping over to the side. It was like when Beyonce was pregnant and there was that scandal that she wasn't actually pregnant. Did you say that? Whoa, no. Never mind then. You leave Fay alone.

I'm not saying I believe it. I'm just saying I saw it. I'm sorry. That's okay. It's alleged to be a prosthetic. The pregnancy prosthetic in this film is something to apologize for. So yeah, so she gets stabbed and it's kind of gruesome. It's kind of weird. And the man from the forest watches this film and he's kind of horrified. And then... It's not quite registering whether he knows the woman yet, though?

Like he hasn't connected that he has a relationship to her? Yeah, he seems of some sort of amnesia because he pulls out his phone and there's no contacts in it. Oh right. And then he calls 112, which I guess is 911 or 999 or whatever wherever you live. Right. And they ask what his name is and he just things up. And he doesn't know his name is and he just things up. they would still talk to him. They're trying to help him out. Yeah. These things up. Right. I forgot about the phone. Oh, he finds an ID saying John Evans, right? That's how we get seen.

That's after, yeah, after he's in the house. Yeah, after he leaves the house. So he runs back to the woods, When he starts vomiting and there's obviously a hose a foot from his head, but like out of we can't see the hose, but like it's so far from his mouth and just like shooting a torrent of vomit. It's like, and it's steam on it. Yeah. I have done some spectacular vomiting in my life, but nothing with that kind of velocity. It was amazing. It's not even the first time, I'm sorry, it's not even the last time he does it. It's so. It's not even the first time, or I'm sorry, it's not even the last time, he does it. It's so much better the second time.

It's like, if he were vomiting with that kind of force, it would have blown him backwards. I remember watching that part of thinking he would be upset with it. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Just a quick diversion to Wild Boys where they dress up as giant bananas and get chased by silverbacks.

Hell of an arm on that guy. I know he was not as thin as the tree he was hiding behind. And I was like, you're not, you're not even hidden. You were neither stealthy nor good at thrilling things.

So no one comes out, so I guess he determines that he can go into the shed. Yes. And there, that's where the chest was, right? And this is the first time we encounter one of the alarm clocks? Yeah. When we get to the end I want to talk about those. Oh sure, sure, sure, sure. I don't quite understand what they were doing. I think I have a theory, but let's go. Okay, great. Cool. About someone does. Yeah. So here's a scratching noise in the chest. Yes. It's rats. so he gets in. So he gets in. But then terrifyingly gasoline gets poured all over the chest? Yeah. I hate this. I'm so bummed right now. Like, I'm claustrophobic and I don't want to be burnt to death. So this is very upsetting to me.

Yeah, that was a really throwing scene. huge flashlight in there which he carries around for most of the rest of the movie but I felt like it was often doing him more harm than good like just pointing out a position showing people where he is yeah can we do another quick diversion yeah yeah him getting out of this cabin he has to eventually dig his way out of the cabin is the only way you can get out while it's on fire right because the front door is barred by whoever was knocking at it I feel like I've never done I've the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the is is is thro. thro. the. thro. the. the. the the. the. the the. the the the the but I feel like I'd be terrible at an escape room. Yeah, it was really fun. I mean, I was terrible at it, but the people I was with really had a good handle on the situation. So I was kind of just a long for the ride. But it is, it's just very tricky. You have all these puzzles and you have to put stuff together and you have to find stuff and figure out how it all relates together. So it's a fun thing to try. Yeah, yeah. I don't know. You like kind of like nerdy stuff like that, which. I'm not really nerdy stuff. I was just going to say that when I play D&D, the puzzles are the worst thing that we do and I hate doing that. But no, I'm not really a nerd. I agree with you though. I feel like in most horror movie situations I'd be like, uh-uh, you know, like, no fucking use. Yeah. That's

I feel like doing this in English really harmed the film.

They should have just done an Indonesian and subtitled it. I would have watched the shit out of it in the Indies. It was very disaracting. Yeah. He tells his wife that she's beautiful like a Stepford wife. And then she says, which one? Nicole? And he goes, was she in that? I'm like, what are you talking about? And he's like, oh, you watch the remake. I only watch the original. I guess this is American references.

Yeah. And then they're outside. And then they're outside? There's a shot of them outside. Yeah, that was so so shit. Yeah, it was first blood. I thought the same thing. I'm excited. It was so dramatic. Whatever he's hiding and he hears her running towards him and he's just just so eager to pull the trap and... Because he thinks it's the doctor man with a big knife who's been chasing him at a distance. Yeah, it's not. It. It's not his daughter. She goes, dad. And then he pulls her off the spikes. Come on.
