What's up?
Well that's good fam.
Today I can't even tell you how excited I am.
Think about somebody that you absolutely love that you would freak out if you met.
Yeah, that's actually what's about to happen.
But beyond a freak out moment, Chrissy Metz is just an absolutely amazing human.
You probably seen her on this us playing Kate.
You may have heard about the new movie coming out breakthrough Breakthrough, or you may have even read her book,
but Chrissy's so awesome.
I love her very much.
First one we'll ever talk, so love is a term
just from social media friends.
But everybody check out me and Chrissy. How are you? I am so good.
I am so thankful to be talking to you today.
How are you doing?
I'm good.
I'm happy to talk to you.
Good.
Well, this is so fun.
Okay, I have to tell you.
We're just going to jump right in.
So you're officially on the world.
That's good podcast.
Woohoo.
So welcome.
But I have to tell you.
So I actually, whenever I started this podcast,
I had put two people on the top list
on who I would like to interview.
And the first one being Oprah, which is kind of funny,
because I see we have that in common.
And the second one was you.
And so I am really, really like this,
because you have been such a huge inspiration to me.
And just a lot of, I read your book, I read a lot of your book. And it's just been such a huge inspiration to me and just a lot of I read your book, I
read a lot of your book and it's just been made a huge impact and so I just want to say
thanks for being on the podcast and thanks for just being you and pouring out so much goodness
it is absolutely contagious and I'm excited for everybody to get to hear from you.
Oh honestly that is so sweet thank you so much I'm happy to be doing this. Really, really, really happy.
Good. Well, this podcast, so the whole meaning message, what we do is we just ask people,
what's the best piece of advice that they've been given? And the cool thing is, most people that I interview
is people I've received a lot of advice from, and so I'm like, I want to hear from you what's something that somebody spoke
over your life that really meant a lot and impacted you.
You know there's been quite a few things but one of my really good friends she you know
I would obviously struggling actress not but four years ago very very recently and she
believes in me when I didn't believe in myself. And that for me
was so important. And I realized afterward that I could be somebody who would believe in someone
until they could believe in themselves and you pay forward. And I think that's why we're here
to help each other. And to sort of just remind us of who we really are, because I think the society, the mainstream
media, all of this can sort of melv our ideas and our ideas of who we think we are, and
get back to who we really are, is what we're doing here.
And so just having someone believe in me. Yeah. And also, just to not take things personally,
because I always did that.
And nothing is personal, because everyone's perception
and their reality, and it doesn't mean that it dictates mine.
And if people like me or if they don't,
they have nothing to do with me.
And just not to think you're personally.
No, I love that. That's so good.
Man, like, I was reading your book last night actually,
and so many, if you haven't read Chris's book,
this is me, and it talks about loving the person that you are today.
And it's really cool, just everything that you're saying.
I know you've spoken out in the book and written about.
And one of the things that you've talked about is how like dealing with haters on social
media, you're like, you know what, they don't know me, I know me.
And I love that.
It's like, it's not personal.
You know yourself.
And if you have others who are speaking into you and believing you and you can believe
in that person, then like, it doesn't offend you or affect you as much.
And I think that's so, so good.
And it also kind of goes along with
the character in this new movie, The Impossible, because I know you were somebody as playing
this mother that believed for the life of her son. And so it kind of all translates
in. And so I want to talk to you about how is that film in a movie like The Impossible,
but that's a little bit different than anything you've ever filmed or like this is us
or was it kind of like similar?
Yeah, I mean, similar in the, you know,
we're dealing with real life issues
and how do we react to them.
So the books that Joyce Smith wrote
is called The Impossible.
The movie's now titled Breakthrough,
which was so interesting to see that they changed the title
because there are so many breakthroughs that not only Joyce goes through, but that Herse and
John goes through and then, of course, Jason the pastor who was so instrumental.
And then there has been, Joyce has been Brian.
And so just as with this, there are these through lines of, you know, feeling inadequate
or questioning or having doubt or losing hope and that so much of what happened with Brian
Joyce and husband and he didn't believe that John was going to make it out and nobody
really did a side-to-end joint.
And you know know sometimes you've
got to be the one that hangs on and it has to be the hope and believe that no matter what
you know the America will happen and the goodness will come and so much like you know with
this is us there's so much that they go. And you don't think you're ever going to get out on the other side of something.
And then, you know, John was not, John was adopted, so he's not, of course, Brian and
Joyce's biological son, but that there is a bond that, that when a child is meant for
you, they're meant for you, doesn't matter how you. It doesn't matter how I believe, it doesn't matter how they get to you.
And the same thing, of course, with Randall in the big three,
but they're of course taking Kevin or twins,
but Randall being adopted, it was meant for Jack and Rebecca to have Randall.
So, you know, there's a couple of different really similar through lives,
but you know, just
human beings, just human beings trying to handle life.
Now that's so good.
And one of the common themes that was throughout the movie that I loved and even throughout
this is us and also note, even in your book and everything, you kept saying as the character
joys, you have a purpose in your love.
I love how you kept speaking that over your sign and how important do you think those words are for literally everyone to hear.
I think that is so beautiful that you brought that up because so many of us as human beings we compare and despair to other people and other walks of life or you know someone
skimming or a richer or they pretty or whatever we want to sort of compare and despair that
if you're on the plane of existence you are a perfect fool and you are loved like you were brought
here for a purpose and loved so much that you were brought here.
That no matter what you do, no matter what you do,
no matter what you ever achieve,
or how much money have your bank account,
like you're a purposeful in your love.
And I think that is something that we're not,
we don't talk about, we're not taught that we're not,
you know, we don't share that enough.
But I also think that that's them from people not,
you know, they can't share that love with other people
if the well is empty.
And so we have to start somewhere.
And so I just, I love that you brought that up
because I think that is so important.
And we need to, we need to express that more for ourselves and for, you know, for others,
for everyone, for everyone.
Yeah, for everyone.
Yeah, that's so true.
And it's actually true for like right now.
I mean, I know there's a lot of people that are going to be listening to this podcast.
And like, I think that they probably need to hear too that they have purpose and that they are loved.
And no matter if they haven't tapped into this big idea of what that purpose is, but the
thing about purposes, it's not a specific job or position or title or achievement.
The purpose is just like you simply were created.
You have breath.
You have life there for you have purpose and you have to know your love.
And I love that your little subtitle is loving the person that you are today and that speaks
towards that. That it's not somebody you're going to become, it's not something you have to strive
for, it's actually right where you're at right now. So, that person and to know your purpose here.
And I just, I love everything you're putting out with that.
Oh, you are good. So you are so sweet.
Seriously, I just love everything, everything you pour out.
And I wanted to bring this up because I think this is such a powerful scene of the movie
that's coming out like I said, breakthrough.
And I'm sorry that I didn't know they changed the title, but that's awesome.
There's that one part that, you know, there are people speaking negativity in the room
and kind of just saying, like, I don't know if he's going to make it, all that stuff. And you know there are people speaking negativity in the room and kind of just saying
I don't know if he's gonna make it all that stuff and you kind of brought this up and as the mama bear
You were like you know what like no more negativity you can only speak life in this room
And I think that that is such a powerful scene that everybody like
Everybody in this whole world can learn from and how important have you seen in your own life to stop that track of
can learn from and how important have you seen in your own life to stop that track of negativity and just speak life and also like only allow that life into
the room. Yeah, you know, I think that it is essential. We can go down a negative
vortex and just get stuck down there. It's so so difficult to get back up and I
think that if you can maintain a sense of positivity
and you sort of vibrate at that frequency,
it means life just so much easier and better.
And it's really, it's just so,
people want to, you know, misery-loved companies.
So people want to bring people down
because they don't want to have hope
or they're afraid of being disappointed.
And so it's really easy to do it and I think, you know, whether you're gossiping or whether you're
thinking, yeah, whatever. Oh, I don't deserve it. I don't deserve that. It's really easy to do that, but you have to have,
you have to, there has to be one person that is going to believe that there is better and the good will come
from it, and I've always heard of that person,
I say I'm like a positive poly, but I think that
because our mind is so powerful that we have to use it for good.
And you have to, you like have to smack yourself out of that, the negativity.
And it's not always easy to do, but it becomes a practice.
And I hope to, I hope that people will see that scene and resonate,
and it will resonate with them and things like, oh, you know what?
What is just this one time I thought positively about this situation?
And it will be some of snowball effect and it will absolutely change your life
because if you change your mind, you can change your life.
And I wholeheartedly believe that.
So, you know, I hope that it impacts people in the way that, you know,
I've had to do it too.
So, like you are your situation, you all you are is where you come from, but I don't agree
with that.
You can absolutely change your trajectory in that in belief and positivity is so powerful.
And you know, Joyce did that.
So, I'm hoping that it will impact people in that way.
Oh my gosh, I know it will.
I was sitting there and was like, yes, girl.
Because people need to have that encouragement.
And I need to see that it makes a difference.
See, I was like, yeah, go.
That was awesome.
It was good.
I wanted to bring out this one other quote from your book.
And just because I thought it was so awesome.
Because I can relate to this a lot. I think
that I actually I used to be like super insecure about about singing and when people would say something
like you should sing a song and be like no no no get all freaked out and panic and just be ridiculous
and there is this part in the book where you had said somebody interviewing you asked you if you
would ever do an album and you were like no no, not gonna do an album. And immediately it just kinda hit you wrong.
Like when you heard yourself say like,
no, I'm not gonna do it.
And you said this quote, you said it,
does it make people feel good when they don't acknowledge
the blessing that they've been given.
And that to me, like that blessed my life
because I think that so many of us,
like part of our purpose is the individual gifts that we have.
And I think we miss out on so much by just the fear that we have that says, you know, what
don't sing or you should be embarrassed, you should feel ashamed or you it's not going
to measure up or be good enough.
And that moment when we press pass all those things and we actually acknowledge a blessing,
not just a gift of blessing that we have.
And so I just wanted to bring that up and hear your thoughts on that a little more because I thought that was just beautiful.
Well, thank you. And I, yeah, it's interesting when you have sort of in the moment revelation
and you're like, oh, okay, that was a message that obviously you needed to be heard at that
moment. And the app is often where I think, you know, I speak to people who have been
doing this and where while they're successful and very happy and they have sat in their
seat of power humbly, very humbly, bad in their seat of power, but when you do that, you
allow other people to say like, yeah, it's okay that I can humbly own a room or bring light to the situation
or bring joy with my voice or tell a story that's going to change people.
And it doesn't mean that you are conceited or cloppy or any of those things.
Just you're honoring what you've been given and that blessing and because we're not taught how to do that because
when you do that and it makes other people play small
Because they're not owning their power, you know, then they want to sort of project
And so if we all could do that lovingly then we all would be taking care of and so we just got to like shift
Our perspective in our minds.
And I had to do that. And I continued to do that even as you know, a woman in her 30s, you know.
So yeah. Now that's so good. And I think you're right. That shift to perspective. And if we didn't see
it just for ourself and we didn't get prideful in it. And it was a selfless kind of thing. Whenever
you have something that you're blessed with, then you're blessed with something
that is actually gonna be a blessing to others.
So you use your voice to sing for others.
You use your acting skills to act in.
For other people, it's gonna be blessed by sitting there
and enjoying the entertainment.
I think you do a such a good job at that.
And so just wanted to say, just acknowledge you in that
and say thanks for being great at that.
But one
of the thing and then I know you have a really busy day ahead but something
that I thought was funny for your vote. Yeah I think it was just a cool little
quote you said that even though like growing up you lived in kind of a smaller
town. You're not necessarily a lot of mentors around but Oprah was a mentor to
you. And I thought you know that, that's so fun that you said that
because I think that a lot of people get stuck in a rut
of like, man, I wish I had a mentor.
If I had somebody that would speak,
I'd then I would have this.
But now we live in a world where we actually get
to have a positive influence in our life.
We can follow the right people on social media,
read the right books, listen to the podcast.
And I know unfortunately not everybody has that voice in their own personal life, but I do
think that there's ways to go and find that.
And so for you, how important has it been that you've just like allowed the right people
in your life?
And I guess this kind of circle is back to that best piece of advice that you've been
given that somebody believed in you and you let that voice in your life for you to be
able to believe in yourself.
So I just want to kind of solve that to you and hear your thoughts on just the power of somebody
Speaking your life like a mentor and if you don't have a mentor even finding somebody like Oprah or something
I mean you said tell me
profound
things that
we are
Everything is accessible to us. Whether we are online, a library,
or an Instagram, any of those outlets that we, it's what we choose to let infiltrate our soul,
our spirit, our minds. And having a resume tour, dreaming of believing that I could ever meet her,
and that I did.
It's so like it just affirms that,
you know, you truly can have what it is that you want
and what it's meant for you, it's meant for you.
But that, it might not be in your time,
it might not be not necessarily on your terms, but that
you can still be impacted and make a change because of what you read or because of what
you share and what's cool is that cyclical.
So you read something that you're inspired by and then you write something or it was speaking engagement and then you inspire others and that's really what it is.
And this life is that we're all here for each other.
And so it's so unnatural, very grateful that I was able to have, you know, whether it was television or books, you know, to read.
But everything really is accessible.
We can find inspiration anywhere.
And it, and sometimes you have to be your own mentor.
But I get it like if you feel like you don't have any place to come from, having your
inspire yourself.
But even wanting to find a mentor is like, that's the step in the right direction of self-care
and wanting to, you know, progress as a person.
And I think that we can be inspired by so many people,
so many stories, I mean, it could be the news,
it could be, you know, your neighbor, you just never know.
And I think that, you know, people that I meet in the grocery store that I never would
have talked to before, who inspire me, who adopted a son, but don't know how to cut it
here.
You know, any of those things, I think so many, everything I think can mean inspiration.
Absolutely.
And it's going to have to be a person.
Yeah.
Man, that's so good. Everything can be an inspiration. I. And it's there has to be a person. Yeah. Man, that's so good.
Everything can be an inspiration. I love that. Well, you're a huge inspiration.
Something that I always tell people is there's a difference between people who just take fame and
take fame and there's a difference to see people who see this opportunity for a lot of people
following them to just respond as a friend to a lot of people. And you're that person that's
responding to all this as a friend to a lot of people. And you're that person that's responding to all this as a friend to a lot of people.
And I just want to say, if anybody out there,
you'll probably know Chrissy Metz from this is us.
You might go see the movie Breakthrough.
I hope you do.
You might have read the book,
but if you don't know Chrissy for Chrissy,
you're missing out because you have a lot of things to say.
You're an amazing positive role model.
And thank you so, so much for coming out in the podcast.
And just speaking life and so much love your awesome
Chrissy. Oh, it honestly has been such a pleasure. I hope to one day meet you because I think you are so special.
Yes. And, oh my gosh, I love you. I feel very grateful to have this time with you. So thank you.
Oh, yes. Thank you so much and if you're ever in Nashville give the girl a hall or you're awesome
Um don't play with me, I was just in Nashville doing some songwriting a couple months ago
Hey! I'm not a conflian girl
Okay, not fun, yeah
That sounds awesome, bye
Alright y'all, you know what time it is?
Time to call Mama.
So we're gonna call Mama with our best piece of advice
and our worst piece of advice.
Let's see what she has to say.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Hey, girlie.
Hey, Mom.
Okay, I'm fan-girling. Guess you are just talk to you. It's
Chrissy met
What I know are you serious? I know I know like that is cool. That's awesome. It's so cool
And like she's nice. She was so nice like
She is so much. She's even cooler than she is on this is us like I thought she was awesome on this
is she is awesome on this is but actually to know Chrissy met like for who she is she had so much good
advice and she was lovely so it was great that is awesome I cannot wait to hear it and it's
giving good all right here it is hashtag wo that's? Hashtag wo das good? Let's see what the people on the gram are giving us today.
Okay.
Ooh! Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-uh-duh-duh-duh-duh I've actually never heard that. Never heard that. You made that so good.
Well it's not bad, but yeah. I mean it's a bad advice. You don't want to throw apples
people, but it's actually true. It's actually true. Somebody comes up to you and you just show
on the apple. I don't know, there's something more pretty persistent.
It's the apples out on there. They're going to keep coming. They're going to keep on coming. something more pretty persistent. And so I'll have them very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very So yeah, I think that's good. I think it's the greater truth that it's trying to say is that like you can look at somebody
and fill it, but if you don't do anything about it, then.
Okay, I just had to pause in this moment right here because the world needs to know that
this, that was so accurate to why this podcast even got started in the first place because
the whole point is like I would always call you and like talk to you about like what
I was about to speak on and if it was good you'd be like whoa that's good and if it was something that you didn't really get you be like well yeah okay but I mean
I'm really trying to say it is and it was just essentially was the one that's bad but it's kind of a step in between you like it's not bad but it's kind of a step in between. You're like, it's not bad, but it's incomplete. And you like that.
You said that to me like two days ago
when I was writing that Instagram caption.
That's hilarious.
That is funny.
Well, I'll always tell you the truth.
Yep, there it is right there.
Well, one more because I think this one's really good.
Remind yourself of the bigger picture.
That is really good.
Sometimes we get so stressed over the little details when
you're not even gonna remember that two days from now. Yep. So if you can always remind yourself
of the bigger picture. So good. You will definitely have a more stress paid life. Oh that is true.
That is true. I really think this is gonna happen when we're all like older, when you're old,
even when you're 90, like you're not even gonna have a wrinkle,
because you are the most mellow person I've ever met in my life.
Well, thank you.
And, you know, nature medics.
And hopefully, yeah, and hopefully that will come true.
Hopefully you're seeking truth.
How are about me not having wrinkled the nine in.
Speaking it out, well, love you, thank you.
All right, love you, baby.
Bye.
Bye. So you can do that. Well, love you. Thank you. All right, love you baby. Bye, bye.
Bye.
Bye.
