Good evening and welcome to yet another Star Trek podcast. I'm your host for tonight, Brad, and as usual,
I am fan-free-contastic.
I don't even know why I had that there.
So you know what, I'm just gonna roll with it.
Go with it, guys.
And as joining me as usual, the man who mixes
his Star Trek metaphors, Majeed, how's it going there, buddy?
I'm living long and prosperking.
Yeah, I, wait, prospecting.
Yeah, you know what, let's just keep it real.
Let's just keep going with it, okay?
But you know what, who's also in the room here?
We have the man who has more video games
than I have magic cards drew, how's it going?
Also, fan, freaking, fantastic. games that I have magic cards drew. How's it going? Also fan freaking
Tastic. I don't get it. Is the fan freaking Tastic like a inside joke? Are you guys not
what the mean? I don't know. Didn't you say that or you say, did you say fantastic?
I really feel like I think that's a freaking Tastic man. I was trying to
I was trying to mock you, Brad. I mean, it's not like he just coasts
I'm a fan. Did you should be mean, it's not like he just coasts on him. I'm a makiou. Offended?
You should be.
He doesn't have that emotional spectrum.
Yeah, no, it just, I think you're just playing around
with me and having fun.
Good times laughing with me, right?
It is the truth, though.
Yes.
Yes.
Jumma, how have you been?
It's been a full-on week.
How's life been going for you guys?
Has it been a week?
Time has no meaning anymore for me.
It's a man make contract.
It has no meaning.
Just like that time that the enterprise travel back in time
three days.
And they never talked about it again.
However, apparently we bring it up on every single episode.
Because it really, really upsets me.
I'm so profoundly upset about it.
I'm really waiting for the next thing that's going to upset you that they'll never talk about
again. I wonder what that one will be. Maybe we should start taking bets on it.
That is a good question. I am quite curious as well. I mean, they don't talk about the red
shirts dying in in troves. Oh, that's, that's nothing. That's, that's perfectly fine.
Right.
Mask Murder in Space is just fine.
Accord in the bread.
Space Murder.
Every time we bring up the red shirts,
I think of that Scolzi book.
Drew, the one that you ended up introducing me.
Oh, the one that's actually called red shirts.
Yes.
Scolzi.
John Scolzi.
Oh, gotcha, gotcha.
Yeah, it was, I listened to the audio book version of that narrated by the late wait not late great
Yeah, just a great will we will we need not Wow
He passed away. He's not he's not dead. He's just awesome. He's just great
Quite fantastic. Oh, is this your thing? Is this your new catch? It's gonna be for this episode
I had to get I had to find a way to pump myself up
after rewatching the cage.
I mean, I mean, not the cage, not the cage.
We didn't watch that.
It's the part two of the injury.
Nice segue, nice, nice segue.
Can we just take a moment to realize how quickly
and officially Brad bought us back onto to topic? That was me.
You know what? That's a that's the skilled host you got there.
Don't listen, don't break your arm pat yourself on the back.
Geez.
Jesus man. Hey, I mean, if I don't pat myself on the back, who else will?
You have a wife and cat.
Yeah, both people, both individuals will claw my back rather than pat it, you're sure you that much.
You should talk to anybody about that.
That's not us. Well, when we last left the crew, Spock was on trial for seizing control of the Enterprise
and locking it in on a direct path to the forbidden planet Talos IV.
In part 2 of the Menagerie, we are back to where we all started in this podcast watching
the episode called the cage.
Yep, that's it.
Oh, it comes full circle.
It's basically a flashback episode of an original pilot that technically never aired,
so therefore does it really make it a flashback episode then?
I think it's more considered a clip show.
You know, I agree, but does it really mean that that's actually where it's at, even
specifically when this originally aired, the pilot technically never aired?
I mean, this is like next level inception.
This is like Trekception.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But there are some layers to this onion that didn't exist,. They did change it in a way that make it more palatable. I can assure you on that. So we cut back to Pike being captured by the Tolotions.
This is a flashback for listeners who may not be aware.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
I'm going to show you a little bit of the information.
So we cut back to Pike being captured by the Tullotions.
This is a flashback for listeners who may not be aware.
And it is explained that they have telepathic powers.
The episode cuts between Pike, the past enterprise crew trying to rescue him, and the current
timeline Kirk Mendes, and Pike,
and they also have Spock on trial.
I'm not sure if I've confused you yet,
but if I have, I apologize.
Anyways, the Tullotions are doing
some sort of matching service
because they're trying to get Pike to hook up
with this woman, Vina, on the episode.
It's clearly some kind of like match, you know, internet,
space, dating, sort of, I guess.
You know, they heard about this website called Fumble or bump.
I totally, I totally miss my own show.
Totally Fumble that one. Nice, nice, keep it.
Oh, God.
Anyways, anyways, they eventually give him the ability to swipe left and offer him two different dates.
One with his Yoman or number one. Who will he choose?
Anyways, Pike tired of their bullshit eventually finds a way way to break free that leads everybody to safety.
The crew of the Enterprise beam up or beam everybody else aboard, but for some reason they
only beam up number one in the Yomin, Pike and Vina kind of get stuck down below.
We'll get to that in a second. The Flashback ends with Pike eventually rejecting Vina after is revealed that she is tragically
disfigured, leaving her on the planet with the tolosions.
I feel like that's a little bit of a, hey girl, you're a little bit not in my realm of
what I'm interested in kind of attitude. That's kind of that's the kind of vibe I got from that.
But we cut back to the enterprise.
Kirk starts to truly understand why Spock was taking pike to the planet.
Then all of a sudden randomly Mendes vanishes.
The talosians speak directly to Kirk
explaining that Mendes was never on board
and it was all an illusion the entire time.
Is it too early for me to say I told you so?
Didn't I say that he's not to be trusted?
Didn't I say?
I mean, you know what?
I'll give you this one.
I'll give you this one. I'll give you this one.
You don't know.
I'm not taking your charity.
I'm not taking your charity. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it. Yeah, apparently. And anyways, the delusions offer Pike to come back to the planet and live with Vina.
Hurrah calls down explaining to Kirk that the restrictions have been lifted for this
one exception to visit the planet.
Pike agrees and he wants to return to the planet.
Spock brings him to the transport,
and then up on the view screen,
we see Pike and Vena are together again.
To sum up this episode, Pike really just wanted
to be with Vena.
The back of the Tullotions head looked like butt cracks,
and I may just be an illusion of the Tullotions.
I mean, you're at least four illusions of this. Listen, I saw versions of you from different timelines,
different ages.
It's true.
I've been there for some of those timelines.
Yeah.
It isn't like some sort of like, oh, there's a younger brat,
older Brad, and then the Brad who doesn't bathe and shave.
I know there was a Brad that we saw the restaurant
with what appeared to be your future,
like your current wife,
but what appeared to be at a first date.
So this may have been a past version of Brad.
Mm-hmm.
I want to comment that this was at a Buffalo Well wings,
which my wife absolutely hates.
They're not paying us, so don't name drop them.
Well, first of all, yes, secondly,
on the first date, she probably didn't have the...
Golf?
The golf to say no.
So it was definitely her.
I mean, I've met her.
I think she just puts Brad in place.
And that's what Brad likes.
He needs some control in his life.
It's not that I English.
He's not.
Hey, you know what?
It's better to just roll with it when it comes to the wife.
Gentlemen, what are your thoughts?
How are you feeling about this episode?
Drew, let me hear from you,
buddy. You said you had some comments there. Well, yeah, I mean, overall, I still
liked what they did with the cage to try to enhance it and make it a little bit
more palatable. But I think they did a better job in the first half than they
did in the second half. But they also kind of took and rewrote
some things like for example in the cage that last scene where we see Pike and
Vena going back into the Toulosions compound that was like a double of Pike
that the Toulosions generated to keep Vena happy. But in the Menagerie part two,
it's played off as if it was Pike himself,
not a double going down.
Now I totally get that they could get away with that,
but it's something that jumped out to me as,
I would say clever.
I thought it was a smart decision to use that footage wisely,
because otherwise, like, how are they going to
illustrate that, you know, disfigured pike is somewhere where he's happy, you know?
And I couldn't agree with you more on that because I remember watching the episode and
they kind of ended the flashback with, with pike, you know, leaving. And I was like, wait, they didn't show that
scene of, you know, with Pike. And I was kind of wondering where they were going with it.
And then once they, you know, they went a little further, it made a lot more sense.
I think for the situation, like they did a really good job of editing and making it kind of
correlate and really go through the whole motions for that story. Yeah.
Did you know? Go ahead. No, no, go ahead. Well, I saw my G. Yawning. So I was trying to cover forms.
I wasn't Yawning. I wasn't Yawning. I was taking a big big big air. Yeah, yeah, your eyes closed and tears coming out of it
I'll edit this out five four. No, no, hang on you didn't actually hear it's you didn't hear it did you?
Oh, no, no, okay, yeah, though I did we're talking about it now
We're talking about so therefore it needs to go back in no, it keep it. Don't cut it. It's fine
It's fine. It's fine.
Hey, did they make the Tologeans throbbing head more disgusting?
Because it was pretty disgusting.
Yeah. I think I couldn't get it. It was the same, wasn't it because it was pretty disgusting. Yeah, I think I couldn't get it
I was saying wasn't it it was equally disgusting. Oh God. It was so disgusting
I know it's like paper mache whatever, but it was pretty nasty
Throbbing veins were pretty nasty
I'm not even gonna touch that
How how Magida how did you feel about the episode?
Was it something that you enjoyed as much as the part one,
or was it something that kind of fell less favorably from you?
I think it did what it did.
Enough of it did enough to stick a landing. Was it the perfect landing? No. Was it better
than the original? Yes. We had answers and I think we had a happy ending.
Which I think was good. I think that I would have been happier if that story continued where Spock is kicked off for a given at
the Marit.
What are they given in Space Navy?
Did they give the Marit's?
Court Marshall.
Court Marshalls.
Yeah, I would have been okay with like 40 lashes with a wet lightsaber.
You know, I would have been okay with that.
Or however they punished these guys in space Navy. I kind of feel like they
they kind of copped out on that one where where it was just like nope all that was an illusion
spark is fine. Yeah I mean you know it's something that frequently happens in Star Trek is
somebody in the crew member does something that's wrong
But because their intentions were good they can kind of get away with it, you know and
I think that you know sometimes there need to be more consequences for your actions. Maybe not a court martial
But you know, I mean we're not gonna get that level of detail in in a
1966 show though
We're not gonna have that that level of detail in in a 1966 show though. We're not going to have that that running thread where, you know, maybe spot gets at the motion.
He's no longer first officer.
Next week, they're going to forget about this.
They're going to move on to the next thing.
Like time travel.
Yes.
I mean, I would be okay with that type of week to week forgiveness in my marriage.
Like, hey, you know, you didn't didn't, you didn't take the garbage out.
I'm sorry. Oh, did I just give like a glimpse into my home life?
Yes, I was trying to be your wife. I'm sorry, Majid.
Oh, you apologize. You're apologizing on her behalf.
Yeah, yeah, I shall hate you for that.
So you know, no good deed goes unpunished.
She, you know, just really quick, she says to me last week, she says, oh, I should probably
like listen to this and support you.
I said, yeah, could you not tell me I love you.
But I talk about you sometimes and sometimes the stories aren't quote unquote accurate.
Which I mean, so if she could, oh man, now you got my interest
peak, man, what is actually like happening?
I mean, it's accurate to my recollection in my version of the story.
It's kind of how the Tullotians would, you know, project that illusion.
That's kind of what I'm doing. I'm just
just like me. Yeah, I mean, this is this sounds like somebody who's trying to discern right between
his right and his wife's right. It's like that that subred that Thanos was right.
It's it's kind of like that. Oh man, that's that's messed up.
No, I listen, in my defense. I'm probably right
30% 30 to 40% of the time that's that's that's generous
That's about 15% more than I expected
Really reality is is 90% of the time your wife is right and the the other 10% of the type is that you're just slightly,
slightly right.
I thought it was 90% of the time
as wife is right 100% of the time.
I should be allowing on account
for both of you, you know,
sitting at armchair with clipboards talking about this.
Yeah.
We'll analyze your entire existence. Right, we'll analyze the entire existence.
Right, be crying by like the podcast. That's fine.
It's okay. We're here for you. You guys have better. She's
nice to you. That's fine. Yes, she's wonderful. So a wonderful,
wonderful woman, I can assure you that much. But anyways,
gentlemen, back to the episode, I think the, I was hoping for more like the first part,
because the first part definitely had a lot more
original substance.
This one, it did have a substantial part
of the pilot episode.
Yeah, they really kind of took advantage of the footage in this one.
I'm not sure they filmed an entire episode of new content out of both parts.
No, I start to think about it. I was expecting more courtroom stuff,
more back and forth in this one. We didn't get any of that. All we had was,
well, Captain, they're transmitting what happened.
You have to watch it.
Right. And it's like, it's like making your kid watch TV when they don't want to.
They're like, making your kids watch your home movies from before you were born.
Yeah. Yeah.
Or like some documentary about like, you know, ancient history.
Or the time I tried to make my daughter watch the rocket tier.
Yeah.
I don't know why the rocket tier popped on my head, but such a movie.
You know, I was just editing an episode where we referred to the rocket tier.
Oh my god, have we?
Yeah.
I must say like that movie.
I'm going to have to buy it or watch it on Disney+.
I think it was on Disney+.
In Corbinite maneuver, you guys were yelling at me and bitch me out for not watching movies.
For not liking. Even though I clearly said in that that I have seen the rocket here and
Brad just steamrolled right over the top of me is like, you haven't seen the rocket here.
Well, I mean in Brad's defense. Um, little Brad's defense, he's a jerk. It's
okay. Well, no, I was going to say that, you know, you can't hear sometimes. Oh, that's
an actual legitimate defense, man. I'm trying to, I'm trying to help you. This is just being insensitive. I feel like I feel like some more of a jerk now to see you.
Man, I ever get everything I may have said to you once or twice.
In the past five minutes.
Yeah.
Oh goodness.
So there's not a lot to talk about with this episode.
No, no, no, really. However,
however, gentlemen, I don't know if you guys noticed in this episode, the back of the
Delosions heads really look like butt cracks. Man, you gotta get over that. You gotta get
over that, man. I got to be asked whether it was something that I was aware of.
I will try to do a Photoshop of putting a thong
around their back.
That would be perfect.
No, because what happened though,
I was like, my wife came to talk to me and I paused it.
I was like, right at that sea where it's the back of their head.
Don't you watch it again?
I was like, oh, it's search rights.
Just like, they're like butt cracks.
Don't use her as an excuse.
Don't use her as your scapegoat.
That's all I ask.
I'm not using a scapegoat.
She's just, she's stating the truth.
Yeah, but I feel like you pause it yourself.
You're like, wow, look at the shape.
They don't skip head day. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Oh man. No, this yeah, I think Drew to your point this this episode was very very little
to discuss. Yeah, we can just fill time by, you know, putting in our clips of our very
first podcast talking about the game. No, I am not doing that. That's a ton of work.
True fact.
You're finishing the last episode?
Not the menagerie now.
No, just tack this on to it.
And then there we go.
We have one longer episode.
No.
Can you see the fire behind Drew's eyes?
Well, fix it if it was true.
I actually, I gave your suggestions some thought
before I replied, but then I was like,
no, I don't want to do that.
Oh, man.
How do you guys feel about Mendez not being real?
I think it's such a big cop-out, man.
No, listen, I called it.
I, listen, I called it.
I said he was not to be trusted. There's something off about that guy.
I still I still stand by my comment, Majid if he if he's not to be trusted that means he's real, but in this case, he wasn't real. Yeah,
I can't be trusted because he's not real. Think about it, man.
But if there's so you're talking about you can't trust that empty seat over there.
Where there's no there's nobody that's in there. It's just empty air.
There's a pillow there.
I'll again, I said I'll give you my charity. I'll give you this one.
I don't need. I don't need nor want your charity. We'll go to the callers and we'll see what they have to say
So let me just randomly call one of our loyal listeners and be like hey watch your opinion on an episode that hasn't aired yet
Let's talk. I gotta call coming right now. Hey, this is a John from California. Oh, hey John from California
What do you think was Majid right? Oh, yeah, yeah, he was solely right men that can't be trusted. Hey, thank John from California. What do you think was Majid right? Oh yeah. Yeah, he was totally right. Mendez
can't be trusted. Hey, thanks John from California. See, there
we go. We got a fan called in. I like it. How you didn't even
attempt to disguise your voice. You just went straight forward
with it. I mean, a lot of people have similar sounding voices.
You know what? Sure. Let's just. Okay. How was John from California here on the episode? Well, sure, let's just, okay.
How was John California here on the episode?
Well, no, he really hung up, so.
Hey, anyway, so like, think about it.
Cervant the Frog and Patrick Mahomes,
similar voices, boom.
Who?
Which one?
Cervant the Frog, he's the little frog
from the Muppet Show. No, I know what Cervant is. Oh
Pat Mom Patrick Vombs. He's the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Yeah, are you that much of a nerd?
I don't know what sports. He's even in a news. He won the Super Bowl a few years back. What's the soup bowl?
It's a it's a bowl they fill with a lot of soup
I love your explanation. They it really makes it easy for me to understand or if you're unread it it's a
It's just one super bow super bow
By the way, proto-pikes still sucks compared to Pike 2.0.
I think on Majid's point though, is that for us, what's coming quite soon is Star Trek
Strange New Worlds.
Yeah, so we talk about our recording schedule pretty regularly on this show.
And so we're recording this episode, the week of the debut of Strangelo Worlds, just a few days in front of it, actually.
And I'm kind of excited that we had an opportunity to see the Menagerie parts one and two so that Majeed in particular, but also you and
I, Brad, could have a better understanding of Pike's story going into this new show.
Because the cage is, is that's not considered canon?
It's just the Menagerie, right?
Well, the Menagerie technically is canon.
So this is Pike's epilogue. If you were to think about it, this is how
Pike's story would end. I would like to think that they're both considered canon. Just
because they reuse a couple shots doesn't make it, you know, right. But Pike, but Pike
writing off in the sunset to this to Los Unis retirement home. This is his end game. This is his story. Correct. Okay.
Yeah, so I like to see how Zadi Pike.
Because I think they said that the cage occurred 13 years prior
to the menagerie. Is that's correct? Yes.
So that's a pretty decent amount of time. He has plenty of time for the stuff with discovery
and at least one five year
mission. Drew, do we know when the Stranger World takes place in conjunction with us?
No. I think I do know. There's like a year after his appearance on Discovery because
he retired. Yeah. He left. Oh, I'm not sure if you watched the new trailer. I I've seen I don't know
They've been putting out so much stuff that I'm not sure what I've seen and what I haven't seen
I I did decide to go dark on new stuff about a week ago. Yeah, okay
So maybe you want to cover years if I explain this good. Okay, so the way I understand this, it's after his time on discovery,
knowing that he's going to end up in this, um, this beeping box, he decides to take a step back from
the, um, enterprise, from, from Starfleet. And that is apparently a year. That's why he has this
beard, that's why he's on a planet. That's why he's all, you know, salt peppered out
Enterprise or Starfleet needs him and they beg to bring him back
Because of negotiations. So that's the way I understand it. It's been at least a year
Gotcha. So he's always zaddyed out discovery happened at 2258 and it looks like the
Accident on the cadet vessel was 2266. So there you go.
There's an eight-year difference of that and so then that potentially means seven years.
So it kind of makes me wonder how they're going to end the series. I mean they could easily
the series. I mean they could easily finish up his story in the confines and strange to worlds.
Well gentlemen I think that's the strange world, but with the manager part two, where do we really go for here?
You know what guys like, come on.
If Rod and Barry phoned you didn't weaken phoned you.
That's a wrap. Let's score the episode and get out of here.
Hey, you know what? Get some free time back. You know what?
Cut that meeting down, down a few minutes minutes get some time back in your life. So gentlemen, let's let's go with
Where we felt this episode lies and where where like you know shine potentially fell short of
um, you know
Drew I'm gonna start with you, but he what where do you feel like this episode?
Really like fell within in the your heart for you
this episode really like fell within in your heart for you. So I gave a minashery part one a 7.5. I was really excited about that episode. I loved everything that they did. I loved how they
used the original footage from the cage. And this one just really, I think, dropped the ball.
They had this great setup. I think they could have expanded on the courtroom drama
They had this great setup. I think they could have expanded on the courtroom drama and really made it compelling. And they're just like every time they tried to get into the courtroom,
Spock's like, no, you've got to watch the footage. And that's how I felt as the viewer, like, no, I have to rewatch the footage.
So, man, just a huge letdown. I still think that they framed the cage in a better light than it was originally.
Plus, it's nice to see some closure to Captain Pike's story.
But I think this is a five.
Wow.
Oh, that's a big dip from your last score round. I want to even try to pump that score a bit. I
I respect because I because I still think like I give the original cage of four and I I think that this is better than that. I can't bring it down to that level.
Would you if you were just like randomly channel
surfing and you happen to come across a second episode, you know,
would you keep watching or I'd probably leave it on, but I'd
probably be doing something else at the same time. Yeah, I
got update, uh, update his Twitter feed. Yeah. Now, Joe would be
doing catabell swings watching episode. That's a terrible
idea. Well, well, that is a bit of a dip.
Now, if I remember correctly, Mijidu scored it pretty high last week.
Yeah, I was very happy with how they made me care about proto-pike.
And you read a E?
If I'm not mistaken.
Damn, A was about right.
Yeah, because I remember I was a seven, Drew was in the middle between us.
Yeah, yeah, that sounds about right.
So how about you, man?
Like, where are you at with this one?
I'm going six.
Really?
Yeah, I'm going six.
I'm going six because it was a satisfying conclusion.
It stuck a landing.
It wasn't the landing.
And next week,
nobody cares that that spark went all emotional and kidnapped
somebody. I still think that protopike sucks. And I think that
Pike 2.0. The one in the chair did a better job at conveying
emotion than protopike. Protopikeike sucks dude. I can get over that
Hopefully this is the last time we have to ever see that garbage. They call the pilot
Oh the on air pilot. I'm pretty sure that's the only time they ever really reference it
Good. Yeah, I'm under the impression. It's behind us from here on forward good. Yeah, it's about time
I don't it took us um what 25 episodes into the season one
No, I don't know time. I don't know. It took us, um, what, 25 episodes into the season one. No, I don't know. No, I don't know. Well, 12 episodes, numbers are hard. Words are hard.
Numbers are hard. Movies are easy. Well, thinking about how the episode was, um,
trying to ignore the fact that it was, rehashed visuals from the pilot. Because if you
think about like when the actual episode aired, none of that ever was presented before.
So it's brand new to the audience at that time. I think to me, there's two things that
bothered me so much. It was the very convenient. Oh, you can visit Talos,
Talos 4 without penalty of death. Mendes just randomly vanishes and
Spock is off scot-free, no issues at all. I think that bugged me a bit. However, it wasn't something that really killed the episode for me.
I would give it a six for this one.
I'm pretty sure that's below with what I had, I think I had a seven last time.
But it was entertaining, but it did have its flaws.
Yeah, I do. I would have to agree with that.
I like, I think with your point, Drew, is that it does put the,
the original pilot in a much better light.
I just felt that the new scenes that they were added just didn't really go too much further.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, they, they, they did an excellent job.
I think with the first one and then just, yeah, the part, part two just, just felt lazy.
And, and like, I think ultimately what happened was you had an episode that was written to be
one shot and then they came up with this great idea to stretch it out to save some money
in the budget.
So, you know, all the new content that was filmed was probably enough to fill the better
part of an episode and they just took it and chopped it what they thought was in the middle,
but ultimately was really like two thirds in,
and then you have like one third on the back half.
It's like, it's like going to a restaurant
and eating a meal and you really enjoyed your meal,
but you could only eat like two thirds of it,
and then you bring home the next third and be like,
oh man, that was a big meal.
This will be plenty for me for dinner the next night.
And then it's not.
Oh my God.
That's a perfect analogy.
Hang on, hang on. Can we talk about how oddly specific that analogy was?
Drew, do you just do that?
No. Okay. Have you done it?
Yes. Resilient in the past.
In the past 48 hours.
No. Okay. In the past week.
No. Are you stalking him?
It was so oddly specific like it just happened to him. No, okay, and the past week. No, are you stalking him?
It was so oddly specific like it just happened to him.
I feel like you're trying to stalk him.
I feel like everybody has had a moment like that.
Yeah, but it felt like it was at the tip of your tongue at the forefront of your brain.
Like it just happened.
I just captured lightning in a bottle with a great analogy
and you're tearing it apart because you wanna know
where I went for dinner last week.
First of all, thanks to modern social media.
I know where you went to dinner last week.
You posted pictures of it.
And the time you go to the bathroom too.
What did I post?
I don't know, food.
I don't post anywhere. You posted food.
You posted it was our discord.

Hey, oh just really quick
Hey, oh, just really quick. Were you guys surprised or shocked when Kirk was like guilty as charged?
Not really.
Okay.
I mean, Spock was clearly guilty.
Yeah.
All right.
Oh, yeah, I was kind of surprised.
Like, no, they're friends.
They're friends, but Kirk is also the captain of a starship.
And he kills numerous people every single week in the line of duty.
Drew, that you're technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.
It's such a great reference.
It's such a great quote. It's such a great quote. Allow me.
Anyways.
Listeners.
Trunin.
Give me a second.
Oh, good.
Sorry.
Future Rava references just get me, man.
They get me.
I'm sorry.
I'm good.
I'm good.
Well, folks, tune in next week for the Conscious of the King.
An actor traveling aboard the Enterprise may be a former governor who ordered a mass murder 20 years earlier.
Find out when we review Conscious of the King.
This feature Kirk, what's all going to about here.
That's a hot twist.
I'm pretty sure it's not talking about retro.
I have not seen this episode.
This is kind of exciting.
I will see.
Everybody, thanks for listening.
Have a good one.
Goodnight. Have a good one. Good night. Bye! Thanks for listening to yet another Star Trek Podcast.
We're a part of the retro sessions network.
This episode was recorded on May 2nd, 2022, and is hosted by Brad, Drew, and Majid. Drew edits with his
magical fingers. Majid takes care of the stunning artwork with his visually stunning eyes,
and Brad somehow words things together I don't really know what he does, but it's
some sort of coherent sentence, which this is clearly not a coherent sentence.
I don't really know.
